In Canada, health officials confirmed the first death from H5N1 bird flu in North America! Deceased woman from Canadian province of Alberta, which has been recently traveled to China.

According to the Minister of Health Canada Rona Ambrose this an isolated case
and there is no danger of the disease spreading, and even less of a bird flu epidemic.

During this flu season in Alberta 10 people have died from swine flu H1N1.

The bird flu H5N1 infects the lower respiratory tract in the lungs and causes
acute viral pneumonia, which in many cases causes the death of the patient.


WHO reported that H5N1 avian influenza is transmitted difficult from person to person , but when people infected with it the mortality rate is about 60%.




Over the last decade in 15 countries around the world were detected 650 cases of avian flu, and 60% of them are fatal.

Only in 2013 reported cases of bird flu were 38 , and 24 of them proved fatal.
Canadian residents have been warned to be especially careful when visiting China, since 60% of cases with fatal outcome.

The virus can lead to a new global bird flu pandemic, the World Health Organization warned in May 2013 in the same year the plague started in China.

Experts say that if the H5N1 virus to mutate and become easily transmissible between humans, the public health consequences could be very serious.

Canadian authorities have followed up with all close contacts of the infected person and offered Tamiflu as a precaution. None of them have bird flu symptoms.
